New Year New You - Tips to get on top of your goals this year!

2019 is done and dusted – it’s a new year, a new decade, and a great opportunity to establish new routines that will help you grow. One of the most common resolutions is to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle, but how do you keep motivated when many of us fall victim to resolutions that seem impossible to keep?

Here are some tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, stay motivated and achieve your goals this year:

1. Write them down

2020 Goals

Write a list of goals you wish to achieve in 2020, whether they be fitness, health or financial gain. Get clear on what you want, write it down and work towards to it. It’s not always easy but keep at it and stay positive.

2. Get moving

Outdoor yoga

Be realistic with yourself – you’re probably unlikely to go to the gym every day and squeezing in exercise into your daily routine can be difficult. Not only is that setting the bar a bit high, but it’s unnecessary. Start with one trip to the gym, or walking home from work instead of always taking the bus.

Or perhaps yoga is more your thing, a great way to build your core strength as well as clear your head. Whatever way suits you, get moving! There are even some great free and paid apps, like C25K, Daily Yoga and Nike Training Club, that can help get you started and keep you motivated – check these out here.

3. Drink lots of water

Family drinking water

Staying hydrated can help your concentration and keep you from overeating. Water replenishes your body providing you enough energy throughout the day, while a glass of water before bed helps to regenerate your skin while you sleep. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated, your skin and body will thank you.

Always keep a reusable bottle on you, this not only cut down costs but also helps reduce landfill waste. Grab a BRITA bottle or BRITA Jug today.

4. Eat more fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables

The Australian Dietary Guidelines recommends eating five serves of vegetables and two serves of fruit a day, however as many as 93 per cent of Australian adults are not eating reaching this amount. Fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet, can help to maintain a healthy weight, and reduce the risk of certain cancers. Make getting your fruit and veg in every day a priority for 2020!

5. Get a good night’s sleep

Sleep is essential to maintaining your physical and mental health and well-being but less and less of us are getting an adequate amount of. While around seven to eight hours of sleep per night is considered the norm, don’t get too hung up on the number. Yes it’s important to ensure you get enough but it’s also about the quality of sleep you get. Some of us function perfectly fine with six or six and a half hours a night whereas those who get eight still feel sleepy and want more!

Remember when you sleep well, you will ultimately be more motivated to eat better and move more but also you feel less stressed, think more clearly, your mood will improve and you will generally be more happier!
