How often should I replace the MAXTRA+ filter cartridge?

It’s important to replace your filters regularly to maintain optimum performance. BRITA recommends replacing your MAXTRA+ filter every 4 weeks or 150 litres.

What are the benefits of BRITA filtered water?

BRITA is renowned for its expertise in the field of drinking water optimisation and filtration for over 50 years.

Australian household mains water is strictly controlled but it can contain chlorine, metals and carbonate hardness (limescale) which can impair taste, odour and appearance of water. A BRITA water filter provides an easy but highly effective way to provide you and your family with great tasting filtered water by:

  • Reducing free and bound chlorine content (if present).
  • Reducing carbonate hardness (calcium and magnesium ions) in the mains water (if present). In other words, it acts as a “water softener” which is particularly important in parts of Australia where hard water is present.
  • Reducing metals such as lead and copper in the mains water which can be increased by corresponding domestic installations.

How do I prepare my BRITA filter?

BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge:

  1. Simply fill a jug or bowl with water. Immerse the BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge in cold water and shake gently to remove any air bubbles.
  2. Insert the cartridge into the jug's funnel and run water through the filter twice.
  3. After discarding the first two litres, your BRITA filter cartridge is ready for use.

BRITA MicroDisc:

Before using the MicroDisc for the first time, place it under running water and lightly rub both sides with your fingers for approx. 30 seconds.  This effectively removes any loose carbon dust that may be present.

Are the contents of BRITA filters safe?

Yes, the contents of all BRITA cartridges are of food grade quality if accidentally consumed, will be harmless to health.

Do BRITA Filters remove fluoride?

No. BRITA cartridges are not designed to remove fluoride. Some fluoride is naturally present in tap water, whilst some water companies add fluoride to the water. If you are concerned about the presence of fluoride in your tap water, check with your local water supplier.

What is the best way to store BRITA filtered water?

You should ideally store your jug with BRITA filtered water in a cool place, e.g. in the fridge. You should also avoid direct sunlight and use the water within one to two days.

My BRITA Memo has stopped working, what can I do?

Please contact customer service with your cask/jug’s serial number, located under the jug itself, at help@brita.com.au

Are BRITA Products Dishwasher Safe?

Jugs: All BRITA jugs are dishwasher-safe up to 50 degrees — except for the lid and the filter change indicator. You can wash the lid carefully by hand.

Bottles: Yes, it is dishwasher safe, however the filter should be removed before washing the bottle. To avoid possible discolouration, please do not wash it together with dirty plates, dishes, cups, etc., as any food residue on these may permanently blemish the bottle. BRITA recommends removing the silicone seal before cleaning in the dishwasher. The seal may be cleaned separately in the dishwasher or by hand.

Carafe: Yes, however the lid, filter exchanger timer and MicroDisc filter must be removed before washing as these parts are not dishwasher safe. You can wash the lid gently by hand.

Why has my fill&go bottle started leaking?

This may be occurring for one of two reasons:

  1. The small white air valve missing inside the lid (small white disc approximately 1cm in diameter)
  2. The filter is not immediately absorbing the water

If you have noticed the white air valve is missing, please contact customer service at help@brita.com.au.

If not, the microdisc filter isn’t absorbing the water straight away. Please try removing the microdisc and soaking it under water until it is completely saturated, then place it back into the bottle. If after this you are still having issues with leaking please contact customer service at help@brita.com.au.

What are the black particles in my filtered water?

It's just activated carbon from the BRITA filter. The granulated activated carbon is made of coconut shells. Like all natural products, coconut shells are subject to natural variations in product quality. Sometimes this leads to abrasion of parts of the carbon into your filtered water. Preparing your cartridge as described in the product manual can help eliminate carbon dust.

When does my filter expire?

If properly stored, all original BRITA cartridges can be kept for several years. Proper storage means at temperatures between 1 °C and 50 °C, without exposure to direct sunlight or heat. The cartridge should also remain sealed in its original packaging.

Why is there algae/mould appearing in my jug?

Chlorine slows algae growth and as filtered water is devoid of chlorine, algae can take hold more easily. This happens when the water is exposed to any light or heat. To prevent this from happening, you will need to keep the jug in a cool, dark place such as your fridge, pantry or a cupboard.
To remove the growth, please soak the affected area in undiluted Milton solution which is available from your chemist. Leave the solution overnight, then rinse thoroughly. It is not advisable to soak the filter cartridge in this solution.

My On Tap Filter Mount is leaking, how do I fix it?

This may have happened for two possible reasons:

  1. Your tap’s water pressure is high
  2. Hot water reaches over 29° (this can affect the system even when not using filtered water)

You will need to replace the connector and if you are experiencing high water pressure you will need to use the flow restrictor disc with the new connector to prevent damage from occurring again. You can check for high water pressure by filling a 1L container from your tap – if this takes less than 15 seconds your tap’s pressure is high and you will need the flow restrictor disc.

Please contact customer service at help@brita.com.au to obtain a new connector and notify the team of whether you have high water pressure or not.

Which adapter should I use for my On Tap Advanced?

Each adapter is compatible with the following tap sizes:

Please note the following taps are not compatible with the system:

How do I attach my On Tap Advanced using Adapter C?

  1. Remove the attachment nut from the water filter body.
  2. Place the type C adapter onto the water filter body and turn it about half a turn, attaching it loosely to the water filter body.
  3. Push the water filter system firmly, flat against the tap and tighten the screws of the adapter evenly.
  4. Tighten the attachment nut securely to the water filter body.

Please note: If the system was not placed properly against the tap, it will be slightly loose once screwed on and water will flow out of the top. The system needs to be placed flat against the outlet of the tap.

Why is the digital display on my On Tap Advanced blank?

The display will only turn on as water flows through the filtered water outlet. If the stream of the filtered water has slowed/stopped, the display will not turn on and the filter needs to be changed.

If the display has stopped while the filtered water is on, the battery will need to be replaced.
