About BRITA
For over 50 years, BRITA is world famous for water filter jugs and water optimisation. Australian household water from the tap is compliant and safe, but may contain chlorine, heavy metals and other sediments which can affect water taste, smell and clarity.
BRITA water filters are designed to:
• Reduce free and bound chlorine content if present.
• Reducing carbonate hardness and act as a “water softener” where hard water is present.
• Help filter out metals such as lead and copper which may be found from dirty or damaged mains.
Product Information
Yes, all BRITA filter cartridges are safe, and are produced with high quality and safety standards. Each filter is made of food grade materials, and are harmless if accidentally consumed.
BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge
- Fill some cool water into a jug or bowl. Soak the BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge in the water and shake gently to remove any air bubbles.
- Insert the cartridge into the BRITA jug's funnel, then run a litre of water through the filter two times.
- After discarding the first two fills, the BRITA MAXTRA+ cartridge is ready to use.
BRITA MicroDisc
1. Before use, place under running water and lightly rub the sides with your clean fingers for approximately 30 seconds to remove any loose carbon dust present.
2. Install into the jug or bottle, ready to use.
BRITA recommends replacing MAXTRA+ filters every 4 weeks, or every 150 litres of use for best results.
If properly stored, unused original BRITA cartridges can be kept for several years. Proper storage means at temperatures between 1 °C and 50 °C, without exposure to direct sunlight or heat. The cartridge must also remain sealed in its original packaging.
No. BRITA cartridges will not remove fluoride. It may be naturally present in tap water, while some water companies may add fluoride. If you are concerned about fluoride levels in your water, please check with your local water supplier.
• Store your BRITA jug with filtered water in a cool, dry place, like the fridge.
• Avoid exposing the BRITA jug to direct sunlight.
• BRITA filtered water must be ideally consumed within one to two days.

This may be due to one of two reasons:
- The MicroDisc filter is not absorbing water right away. Remove the MicroDisc and soak in water until it is completely saturated, then replace back into the bottle.
- The small white air valve is missing inside the lid (a small white disc approximately 1cm in diameter).
If the valve is missing, or any continuing leak issue, please contact customer service at au10_help@brita.net.
There may be two possible reasons:
- Your tap water pressure is too high – you may need to replace the connector with one including a flow restrictor disc. To check for high water pressure, fill a 1L container from the tap at maximum – if this takes less than 15 seconds to fill, the pressure is too high.
- Hot water temperature reaches over 29° (this can affect the system even when not using filtered water)

The On Tap Advanced System comes with a number of adapters to fit your existing tap at home. See which adapter you should use here.
- Remove the attachment nut from the water filter body.
- Place the On Tap type C adapter on the water filter body and turn it half a turn, attaching it loosely to the water filter body.
- Push the water filter system firmly, flat against the tap and tighten the screws of the adapter evenly.
- Tighten the attachment nut securely to the water filter body.
Note: If the On Tap Advanced system was not installed properly against the tap, it will be slightly loose once screwed on and water will flow out of the top. The system needs to be placed flat against the outlet of the tap.
MAXTRA PRO filters
We are in the process of launching MAXTRA PRO filters which will replace the MAXTRA+ filters that you have been used to seeing. We are doing this in a phased approached by pack size, whereby when a pack size of the MAXTRA + filter runs out, it will be replaced with MAXTRA PRO filters. MAXTRA PRO filters are compatible with all MAXTRA+ products and feature improved performance over MAXTRA+. MAXTRA PRO will be provided at no additional cost. Depending on stock availability MAXTRA PRO filter in the place of MAXTRA+.
Please note the MAXTRA+ filter is being phased out. Depending on stock availability you may receive a MAXTRA PRO filter in the place of MAXTRA+. MAXTRA PRO filters are compatible with all MAXTRA+ products and feature improved performance over MAXTRA+. MAXTRA PRO will be provided at no additional cost.
Care & Usage
- All BRITA jugs are dishwasher-safe up to 50 degrees except for the lid and the filter change indicator. You must wash the lid carefully by hand.
- All BRITA bottles are dishwasher safe but filters and silicone seals must be removed before washing. To avoid any bottle discolouration, avoid washing with soiled plates, cups and the like, as food residue may permanently blemish the bottles. Silicone seals may be washed separately in the dishwasher or by hand.
- BRITA Carafe is dishwasher safe, however the lid, filter exchanger timer and MicroDisc filter must be removed - these parts are not dishwasher safe. You can wash the lid gently by hand.
- This excludes the BRITA cask where all its components must be washed by hand.
BRITA filtered water is devoid of chlorine, which slows algae growth. Algae may grow when the water is exposed to any direct sunlight or heat. To prevent this, store your BRITA jug in a cool, dark place such as your fridge, pantry or a cupboard.
To remove the algae growth, soak the affected area in undiluted Milton solution (available from your chemist). Leave the solution overnight then rinse thoroughly. We do not recommend to soak the filter cartridge in the solution.
These particles may be from the natural activated carbon from the BRITA filter. The carbon is made from coconut shells, which are subject to natural variations in filter quality. This may cause some residual carbon dust to rub off into the water. Prepare your filter cartridge as described in the BRITA product manual to help eliminate carbon dust.
